When it comes to adapting my writing to your voice and tone, I’m basically a chameleon. Voice is what helps you stand out from the pack. I know firsthand how important a strong voice can be in communicating your mission.
Creating Voice Guides From the Inside
I created the MAH’s Communications Guide, the sole document used for all organizational communications. The guide includes a friendly breakdown of the organizational personality, a glossary of common terms, and examples of how to write and speak ‘like the MAH’. It’s used in trainings for staff and as a reference for everyone who communicates for the organization.
Creating Voice Guides From the Outside
In 2019, I worked with Arts Council Santa Cruz County to create a Voice & Tone guide for the organization. I led a workshop with their full staff to understand their voice and crafted a communications guide to be used in their marketing, training, and grantwriting.
Developing One Pagers for Staff
While brand voice is always the same, the way you communicate may shift based on different projects. At the MAH, I’ve prepared dozens of one-pagers and trained staff and volunteers on how to communicate about new initiatives in a way that feels on brand and adaptable to their own unique voices.
